Lo studio, coordinato dalla psichiatra Catia Teixeira, è stato condotto su un gruppo di 24 cuccioli di topo. Dopo numerosi test, si è arrovati ad affermare che il contatto materno è in grado di aumentare nei cuccioli (e quindi anche nei neonati) l’attività della corteccia cingolata anteriore, una regione del cervello ricca di recettori della serotonina.
