“Prendi le vitamine ” è stato a lungo il mantra delle mamme in tutto il mondo . Ora , i ricercatori dicono che le vitamine e gli integratori non sono solo inutili , ma in alcuni casi possono davvero essere un male per la salute. Lo dimostrerebbero i risultati di alcuni studi sulle vitamine pubblicati sulla rivista Annals of Internal Medicine .
In uno studio i ricercatori hanno seguito la salute del cuore di 1.700 pazienti che avevano subito attacchi di cuore. A metà di loro è stato dato un multivitaminico e agli altri un placebo . Dopo 5 anni , i ricercatori hanno riscontrato alcune differenze nella probabilità di avere un altro attacco.
Un secondo studio indagava il ruolo delle vitamine nella prevenzione dei declini cognitivi associati all’invecchiamento su un campione di quasi 6.000 partecipanti di sesso maschile di età compresa tra i 12 e i 65 anni. Quando i ricercatori hanno testato le funzioni cerebrali dei pazienti (come la memoria verbale), hanno trovato risultati comparabili tra i due gruppi .
Il terzo studio ha analizzato 400.000 pazienti , esaminando gli effetti delle varie vitamine sulla prevenzione del cancro , le malattie cardiovascolari e la mortalità in generale. Questi risultati , purtroppo , non hanno mostrato alcun beneficio reale delle vitamine.
La rivista cita inoltre, recenti studi sul beta- carotene che comporterebbe un aumento del rischio di morte nei pazienti con cancro del polmone . Allo stesso modo, gli integratori di vitamina E aumenterebbero il rischio di morte prematura .
