Altruismo e generosità rendono più attraenti

Pat Barclay, professore assistente presso l’Università di Guelph in Canada ha recentemente pubblicato una ricerca secondo la quale le persone generose ed altruiste risultano più attraenti.
Lo studio, pubblicato sulla rivista British Journal of Psychology è stato condotto attraverso interviste a 150 donne e 155 uomini, a cui sono stati sottoposti profili e foto di persone del sesso opposto.
In alcuni di questi profili il ricercatore ha inserito informazioni che potessero illustrare la sua propensione alla generosità ed all’altruismo, per esempio rivelando nel profilo la partecipazione ad un’attività di volontariato.

Dopo aver visionato i profili, i partecipanti coinvolti nello studio dovevano valutare in base ad un punteggio quali ritenevano più attraenti e con quali avrebbero scelto di instaurare una relazione a breve o lungo termine.

Lo studio ha scoperto in questo modo che uomini e donne sono più attratte da una persona generosa ed altruista, e che questa sarebbe la prescelta per una relazione a lungo termine.

Aggiungere quindi nel profilo un tratto di generosità ha dunque consentito alla persona di aumentare il punteggio in termini di attrazione.

Un divario evidente tra i sessi è apparso quando si trattava di relazioni a breve termine o occasionali. In questo caso, mentre le donne restano comunque attratte da quelli più generosi ed altruisti per gli uomini sembrava che la scelta fosse indifferente.

E’ stato difficile, ammettono i ricercatori, quantificare esattamente quanto un profilo in cui traspare la generosità faccia aumentare il proprio grado di attrazione, ma, in una scala da uno a dieci, spiega il dott. Barclay, questa è risultata salire di almeno mezzo punto.

Lo studio nel suo insieme può fornire alcune spiegazioni in merito all’evoluzione umana, spiegando come uomini e donne selezionano quello che sarà destinato ad essere il suo compagno/compagna nella vita.

Secondo la ricerca insomma anche generosità ed altruismo farebbero parte del corredo di strumenti seduttivi che gli individui della specie umana mettono in campo per attrarre quelli dell’altro sesso.
