In questo periodo ci stiamo occupando delle cosiddette sindromi, che spesso sono malattie rare o genetiche come la sindrome di Sotos, la sindrome di Asperger, la sindrome di George, la sindrome di Marfan, la sindrome di Gilbert e la sindrome di Proteo, tanto per citarne alcune, ma molte volte si tratta di malattia psicologiche, come la sindrome di Munchausen, la sindrome di Stoccolma o il complesso (o sindrome) di Edipo.
Oggi vogliamo parlare di una patologia psiciologica, la sindrome di Stendhal.


La sindrome di Stendhal, conosciuta anche con il nome di sindrome di Firenze, è una malattia psicosomatica che ha come sintomi principali tachicardia, capogiro, vertigini, confusione e anche allucinazioni che si manifestano in alcune persone che si trovano al cospetto di famose opere d’arte.

E’ chiamata anche sindrome di Firenze in quanto molti casi si sono verificati proprio in questa città e questa malattia è molto rara ed è annoverata tra le cosiddette malattie del viaggiatore.

Il nome Stendhal invece è stato messo in quanto il primo a soffrire di questa patologia, di cui poi ne ha anche riportato i sintomi e le esperienze, è stato proprio lo scrittore francese Stendhal.

Il fattore principale che scatena questa crisi si manifesta durante la visita ad un museo della città, dove il visitatore è colpito interiormente da una o più opere, in cui chi ne soffre raggiunge una sorta di estasi, come se entrasse in contatto con l’autore; questo si manifesta inizialmente con comportamenti di diversa natura che possono concludersi anche ad un’isteria che può spingere alla distruzione dell’opera.
