Perché lavarsi bene le mani

Può sembrare un accorgimento molto banale, quasi inutile, ma esiste un modo corretto per lavarsi le mani. Piccoli accorgimenti che non sono affatto da sottovalutare e soprattutto in questo periodo, durante la stagione dell’influenza: lavare bene le mani rappresenta un buon metodo di protezione dal rischio di infezioni respiratorie, gastrointestinali, ma anche cutanee. Di per sé le mani sono piene di germi, il 20% è formato da microrganismi che si trovano sulla pelle senza procurare danni. Il problema si crea quando le mani diventano il ricettacolo di virus e batteri che circolano nell’aria e che possono essere presi anche solo toccando qualcosa. Da lì a portare le mani, e di conseguenza il microbo alla bocca e ammalarsi, il passo è davvero molto breve.

Lavare bene le mani però può aiutare in molti casi andando a creare le condizioni adatte per non “attirare” ulteriori microbi.

Ogni fase del lavaggio delle mani è estremamente importante: bando alla frettolosità.  È importante lavare le mani con acqua e sapone, sfregarle per bene, sciacquandole per eliminare ogni residuo e asciugandole con altrettanta attenzione. Per essere però efficace il lavaggio dovrebbe avvenire nell’arco di 40-60 secondi mentre generalmente molti si lavano le mani in meno di 20 secondi.

In realtà l’accurato lavaggio delle mani intende allontanare la flora batterica transitoria e per far ciò è necessaria una certa attenzione. Fondamentale anche asciugare bene le mani visto che umidità residua può non solo screpolare le mani con le basse temperature, ma anche favorire la moltiplicazione dei microrganismi.

LAVARSI LE MANI PER PREVENIRE LE MALATTIE

Se mantenere una buona igiene è consigliabile nell’arco di tutta la giornata, è anche vero che ci sono momenti particolarmente importanti: le mani vanno lavate soprattutto prima di mangiare, di cucinare (ma anche dopo), dopo aver toccato un animale, dopo essersi soffiati il naso o dopo aver starnutito, ma anche prima di mettersi le lenti a contatto e naturalmente prima di curare una ferita.

Situazioni che possono agevolare la moltiplicazione di batteri. Attenzione a non eccedere con i saponi e con i lavaggi troppo frequenti che potrebbero compromettere la presenza di germi buoni scatenando irritazioni e sensibilità cutanea.
