L’aborto interno è una patologia che si verifica nel primo trimestre della gravidanza e a differenza dell’aborto spontaneo in cui l’embrione viene espulso, il feto muore e rimane all’interno dell’utero.
In questo tipo di aborto il feto non viene espulso subito dopo la morte ma rimane all’interno del corpo della donna per diverso periodo; in questo arco di tempo, che può variare da diversi giorni ad alcune settimane, il feto è sottoposto a delle modificazioni involutive, che possono andare dall’assorbimento, se l’interruzione avviene nelle primissime settimane, alla disidratazione e alla mummificazione, se avviene più in là, anche nel secondo trimestre.



I sintomi possono essere quelli iniziali di un aborto spontaneo ma che svaniscono in fretta e non fanno supporre che si sia trattato di un aborto vero e proprio, ma più in là nel tempo la donna si rende conto che l’addome non cresce più e che il seno che era diventato più turgido, diminuisce man mano.
La diagnosi di un aborto interno può essere stilata soltanto dopo due visite che si distanziano di tre o quattro settimane una dall’altra.
Anche se i test di gravidanza risultano negativi a distanza di tempo dal presunto concepimento vuol dire che c’è stato un aborto interno; nel caso in cui l’interruzione si è verificata, è necessario che venga svuotato l’utero aprendo il canale cervicale.
Le cause di questo tipo di aborto sono le stesse cause che si verificano per l’aborto spontaneo e allo stesso modo è possibile che la donna abbia un’altra gravidanza e che sia in grado di portarla a termine.
