Secondo uno studio sovvenzionato dal National Institutes of Health (NIH) e portato avanti dai ricercatori dell’Università del Michigan Health System, contro l’insufficienza cardiaca sarebbe molto utile mangiare uva.
L’insufficienza cardiaca porta ad un ispessimento e irrigidimento del cuore, il quale non riesce più a riempirsi e pompare sangue come dovrebbe. La ricerca condotta negli States ha confermato che l’uva è una naturale fonte di antiossidanti come i polifenoli, che sono i responsabili dei benefici apportati al cuore e al sistema cardiaco. I ricercatori sostengono che queste sostanze vanno ad influenzare l’attività di geni e i percorsi metabolici che migliorano i livelli di glutatione (o GSH), cioè il tripeptide o antiossidante cellulare con la maggiore presenza nel cuore.
Secondo gli esperti lo stress ossidativo è legato all’insufficienza cardiaca, infatti è stata osservata una deficienza di glutatione in occasione di un’insufficienza cardiaca. Inoltre una dieta ricca di sostanze antiossidanti (derivate da frutta e verdura) è stata legata ad una riduzione dell’ipertensione.
I risultati di questo recente studio sono stati pubblicati sul Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, è stato condotto su un gruppo di topi con ipertensione e insufficienza cardiaca. Per 18 settimane i topi sono stati nutriti con una dieta arricchita da acini d’uva. I risultati hanno mostrato che mangiando uva si è ridotto il volume del cuore, così come la fibrosi ed è stata migliorata la funzione diastolica del cuore. Secondo gli esperti l’uva ha agito nella promozione dell’attività di difesa antiossidante da parte dei geni che aumentano la produzione di glutatione.
