Chiropratica per trattare la lombalgia acuta

Si chiama lombalgia, o lombaggine, una forma molto diffusa di dolore o fastidio muscolo-scheletrico della regione postero-inferiore del dorso, lombosacrale e sacroiliaca, talora irradiato agli arti inferiori (sciatica).


La forma acuta della lombalgia consiste in un episodio improvviso o di un dolore sempre più forte durante una forma di dolore cronico, mentre la forma cronica consiste nel perdurare dei sintomi per almeno 6-8 settimane dall’insorgenza.

Solitamente si inizia a soffrire di lombaggine in seguito a traumi, lesioni o contratture, ma può anche comparire per stress o per postura scorretta. La cura classica prevede farmaci antidolorifici e antinfiammatori abbinati a sedute di fisioterapia, ma secondo uno studio condotto dai ricercatori del Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research di Davenport, nello Iowa (Usa), l’abbinamento della chiropratica può essere molto efficace nel ridurre il dolore.

I ricercatori coordinati dalla dottoressa Christine M. Goertz hanno preso in esame 91 soldati in servizio attivo, di cui l’86% maschi, che sono stati divisi in due gruppi: un gruppo ha ricevuto le cure tradizionali, mentre l’altro gruppo le cure tradizionali più la chiropratica. I risultati hanno mostrato in maniera netta che il dolore alla schiena era migliorato molto di più nel gruppo sottoposto anche a chiropratica.

Come affermato dai ricercatori, lo studio in questione conferma che la chiropratica, abbinata alla terapia tradizionale offre un vantaggio importante nel ridurre il dolore e migliorare la funzionalità fisica in confronto con la sola terapia standard, in uomini e donne tra i 18 e i 35 anni di età con lombalgia acuta.
