Le ultime ricerche sembrano non aver dubbi sulla cosiddetta sindrome surrenale bilaterale di Cushing, essa può essere ereditaria, inoltre molte persone affette da questa sindrome, ne sono portatori silenti senza saperlo.
Questi sono i risultati delle ricerche portate avanti da alcuni ricercatori Francesi e Canadesi dell’Università di Montreal, e pubblicati poi sul New England Journal of Medicine; è importante quindi sottoporsi e far sottoporre i familiari dei malati di sindrome surrenale ad un screening in grado di rilevare le mutazioni genetiche, in modo tale che chi è affetto da questa malattia, ne venga a conoscenza. Inoltre andranno sviluppati farmaci in grado di interrompere l’eredità di alcuni geni modificato che causano la Sindrome di Cushing e così eliminare la pratica di asportare le ghiandole surrenali, inoltre fare delle cure personalizzate e cercare di prevenire la malattia di chi ne è geneticamente predisposto.
Ma da cosa è causata la Sindrome di Cushing? Essa è detta anche Ipercortisolismo, e si ha quando l’ormone cortisolo, detto anche “ormone dello stress” è in quantità eccessive nel nostro corpo: infatti le ghiandole surrenali hanno proprio il compito di rilasciare tale ormone, ma quando il carico diventa eccessivo, esso causa sintomi come l’aumento del pese, il diabete, difficoltà di concentrazione o l’osteoporosi: tutti sintomi che ha volte risulta difficile collegare tra loro. Inoltre bisogna fare attenzione ad alcuni farmaci, come quelli per l’asma e quelli l’artrite, in quanto sembrano essere in grado di favorire lo sviluppo della malattia.
Comunque le ultime scoperte ci dicono che la Sindrome di Cushing è molto legata al fattore ereditario, questo permetterà ai ricercatori di cercare dei farmaci che interrompano questo passaggio dei geni malati.
