Si era sino ad oggi sempre creduto vero che la fecondazione assistita potesse essere causa di maggiori malformazioni congenite del feto rispetto al concepimento naturale.

A porre rimedio a questa gravissima lacuna avrebbero pensato i ricercatori del Robinson Institute di Adelaide, in Australia, che dopo aver visionato ed adeguatamente analizzato le cartelle cliniche, sino ai 5 anni di età, degli oltre 300.000 bambini australiani nati vivi tra il 1986 ed il 2002, sarebbero stati in grado evidenziare tutte le possibili malformazioni congenite conseguenti a tutte le possibili tecniche di procreazione assistita riuscendo così a stendere una prima accurata statistica sul delicatissimo argomento.

Ebbene, dopo anni di studi, analisi, confronti e comparazioni delle più precise ed approfondite possibili, i ricercatori australiani avrebbero potuto in questi giorni emettere il proprio verdetto che, purtroppo, sarebbe a tutti gli effetti da considerarsi oltre modo impietoso.

Stando a quanto i coordinatori del programma di ricerca avrebbero rivelato al New England Journal of Medicine, in assoluto una delle migliori riviste scientifiche dell’intero globo, la fecondazione assistita aumenterebbe il rischio di malformazioni congenite dal 5,8 (valore medio che si registrerebbe, a livello globale, nei casi di concepimento naturale) all’8,3% con punte, nei casi di procreazione medicalmente assistita con ICSI (ovverosia con Iniezione Intracitoplasmatica dello Spermatozoo) addirittura equivalenti al 9,9%.
