L’appendicite è un’infiammazione dell’appendice, un piccolo tubicino che si trova all’estremo dell’intestino crasso, che si manifesta in caso di ostruzione o infezione. Non sembra sia prevenibile, ma alcuni dati suggeriscono come sia meno frequente in persone con una dieta ricca di fibre e prodotti poco raffinati. Al contempo è noto come alcuni cibi possano influenzare negativamente la sintomatologia ed i rischi correlati. Ecco cosa occorre sapere circa l’alimentazione in caso di appendicite.

Cibi da evitare

Un’appendicite acuta e violenta in genere va operata. In taluni contesti però spesso una terapia antibiotica può escludere l’intervento chirurgico. Per gestire la sintomatologia la dieta può avere un ruolo importante. Gli alimenti che dovrebbero essere rigorsamente evitati in caso di sospetta o latente appendicite sono i seguenti:

• Alcool
• Caffè, tè e bevande gassate
• Cibi in scatola e succhi di frutta
• Cibi fritti
• Carni grasse
• Prodotti da forno, che contengono cereali raffinati e farina bianca
• Gli alimenti provocano gas intestinali (ad esempio) fagioli e broccoli
• Spezie e pepe
• Condimenti
• Dolci
• Olio, burro e altre fonti di grassi

 

Cosa mangiare

Esclusi i suddetti alimenti le cose da mangiare rimangono comunque molte. In caso di un attacco di appendicite acuto, previa visita medica che stabilisca la non urgenza dell’intervento, è opportuno preferire dei cibi leggeri e liquidi. L’infiammazione infatti può essere conseguente ad un’ostruzione dell’appendice, molto spesso dovuta ad esempio a piccoli pezzi di feci dure rimaste incastrate nel canale. Aggiungere grandi quantità di alimenti, scarsamente digeribili e ricchi di scorie può peggiorare la cosa. Acqua a volontà, latte e un brodo leggero possono aiutare. Anche i cibi ricchi di fibre -che si ritengono utili per evitare il problema o ricadute- nella fase acuta (almeno per un paio di giorni) andrebbero evitati per non peggiorare la situazione: frutta sì ma meglio se in succo (naturale e senza zuccheri aggiunti) e comunque rigorosamente senza buccia.

Nell’arco di 2 o 3 giorni sarà possibile reintegrare poco a poco i preziosi alimenti ricchi di fibre, formaggio, yogurt e proteine magre (uova, carni bianche, pesce), la frutta sempre meglio senza buccia. Anche purea di patate o passata di pomodoro sono adeguatamente tollerati. Attenzione ancora per qualche giorno ai derivati di farina bianca e ai cibi che provocano gas intestinale. L’obiettivo è quello di arrivare in 4-5 giorni ad una dieta ricca di fibre ed equilibrata: i cibi da evitare sopra elencati potranno essere assunti c

 

Dieta dopo l’operazione di appendicite

Anche dopo un intervento di appendicectomia è utile attenersi ad una dieta speciale, almeno per qualche giorno: il tratto intestinale infatti può stentare a rimettersi in moto efficacemente. Nelle prime ore post -operazione è utile specie in presenza di nausea e vomito attenersi ad una dieta liquida (brodo, succhi di frutta, acqua). Poi possono essere introdotti con gradualità cibi leggeri ed altamente digeribili nella dieta dei giorni a seguire (anche patate, riso e pollo). Vanno evitati un po più a lungo gli alimenti che producono gas (come fagioli e broccoli) in quanto potrebbero aumentare il dolore post operatorio. Poiché è possibile che si manifesti stitichezza, vanno inseriti nella dieta cibi ricchi di fibre, ma anche in tal caso sempre con gradualità. Si può tornare ad una alimentazione normale già nel giro di un paio di settimane se non vi sono altre problematiche di sorta.
