Una pianta molto comune nei paesi nordici, che ha bisogno di un clima freddo per crescere rigogliosa. La betulla è presente anche in Italia, ad oltre 700 metri di altitudine. È famosa per il suo aspetto peculiare, presentando un tronco e dei rami grossi, ricoperti da una corteccia bianca facilmente sfaldabile. I meno avvezzi non conosceranno le proprietà della betulla o, meglio, delle sue foglie e della corteccia, utilizzate in erboristeria in molteplici casi.
Andando per gradi, identificando prima gli elementi costitutivi della betulla, troviamo al suo interno tannini, un olio essenziale in grado di fornirle proprietà antisettiche, dei flavonoidi, saponine triterpeniche, Vitamina C, acido caffeico e acido betuloretico, per non parlare della proantociandine. È importante precisare, prima di scendere nei particolari in merito alle proprietà benefiche della betulla, che non esistano indicazioni terapeutiche che ne confermino l’efficacia. Ciò nonostante, la betulla trova ampiamente applicazione negli infusi, negli estratti e nelle tinture, avendo anche un’ottima funzione diuretica.
Possiamo affermare che la prova empirica del funzionamento della betulla sia data dal singolo studio degli elementi presenti al suo interno, utili come diuretici, come detto, ma anche come sostanze antiinfiammatorie naturali. Andiamo a vedere nel dettaglio quali sono le proprietà della betulla e i suoi campi di applicazione.
Le proprietà della betulla
Entrando nel merito della materia oggetto del nostro articolo, possiamo affermare che la betulla sia un fitoterapico e che, pertanto, sia un buon diuretico ed antiinfiammatorio. Estratti, infusi e tinture a base di betulla sono spesso utilizzati per la sindrome premestruale, nella prevenzione della calcolosi renale e della renella.
