Il fumo in gravidanza non scatenerebbe l’autismo

L’autismo, come ormai ampiamente dimostrato dalle approfondite ricerche che, nel corso dei decenni, sarebbero state portate avanti dalle migliori università della Terra, è una gravissima malattia la cui origine potremmo far risalire ad un’eccessiva esposizione del feto, o del neonato, ad agenti chimici tossici o dannosi.

► POSSIBILITA’ DI AUTISMO NEI BAMBINI PREMATURI

Si era altresì sempre ritenuto che  il fumo della madre durante la gravidanza, specialmente nei primi trimestri, fondamentali per il corretto sviluppo neurologico del futuro nascituro, potesse essere tra i più probabili agenti scatenanti i Disturbi dello Spettro Autistico.

Eppure le cose, come dichiarato in questi giorni dai medici della Drexel University di Philadelphia, una tra le più prestigiose università della costa orientale degli Stati Uniti d’America, potrebbero non stare esattamente in questi termini.

► SINDROME DI ASPERGER

Stando a quanto riportato dalla rivista scientifica Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, sulle cui colonne sarebbero stati  in questi giorni pubblicati gli interessanti risultati della revisione sistematica oggi alla nostra attenzione, non vi sarebbe infatti alcuna correlazione tra autismo ed esposizione al fumo.

I ricercatori statunitensi, per dimostrarlo, avrebbero revisionato le cartelle cliniche di circa 4.000 bambini autistici svedesi  e di oltre 38.000 bambini svedesi sani.

► FUMO CAUSA DANNI CARDIOCIRCOLATORI AL FETO

Ebbene nei due gruppi, ovverosia nel gruppo sottoposto ad analisi così come nel gruppo di controllo, la percentuale di bambini esposti al fumo durante la gravidanza oppure ancora nei primi mesi di vita sarebbe risultata pressoché identica, non lasciando dunque adito ad alcun ulteriore dubbio sulla possibile correlazione tra fumo in gravidanza e sviluppo dell’autismo nel futuro nascituro.

Piuttosto, sebbene ciò non sia stato ancora preso in considerazione da nessuna ricerca specifica sull’argomento, ben più probabile potrebbe essere la correlazione tra autismo e livello socio-economico-istruttivo dei genitori.
