La sindrome di Dubin-Johnson è stata per diversi anni confusa con la sindrome di Rotor, visto che ha molte caratteristiche in comune, a partire dal dolore al fianco destro.
La sindrome di Dubin – Johnson è una malattia ereditaria e come per la sindrome di Rotor, presenta una iperbilirubinemia cronica; questa è una patologia che spesso è asintomatica o può manifestarsi con sporadici e non ben definiti sintomi gastrointestinali: infatti può succedere che il fegato sia ingrossato e presenti una lieve dolenzia.
