La migliore terapia contro la fibromialgia? L’ideale- come affermano gli esperti- è non prendere un’unica strada, ma seguirne contemporaneamente pi di una, insieme: la terapia farmacologica, quella fisica, rimedi non convenzionali e dieta, optando all’occorrenza anche per alcuni integratori alimentari.  Ma quali sono i supplementi migliori da assumere? Nell’ottica della sintomatologia varia ed aspecifia della fibromialgia, numerosi possono essere gli integratori alimentari da prendere in considerazione, che in generale, seppur non direttamente efficaci sui disturi presenti possono andare a migliorare le condizioni generali di salute ed offrire un minimo di energia in più. L’importante è non andare a caso: le carenze, se ci sono, si possono misurare e solo allora si può decidere se assumere o meno un integratore al posto di un altro. Un esempio? Si ritiene che la fibromialgia possa essere correlata ad una carenza di magnesio, ma se dosando questo minerale nel nostro sangue, risulta essere nel range di normalità, difficilmente assumere degli ntegratori di magnesio porterà dei benefici. Detto ciò, ecco gli integratori alimentari più popolari in caso di fibromialgia.

1) 5-HTP (5-idrossitriptofano). Agisce sulla serotonina: poiché bassi livelli di serotonina sono associati a depressione si ritiene che innalzarli contribuisca a migliorare il tono dell’umore. In particolare uno studio scientifico ha evidenziato come supplementi (integratori) di 5-HTP supplementi abbiano aiutato a tenere sotto controllo in pazienti con fibromialgia non solo il tono dell’umore, ma anche l’ansia , l’insonnia, il dolore e la rigidità mattutina che accompagnano spesso tale condizione. Nel 1980, gli integratori di 5-HTP sono stati associati ad alcuni casi di eosinofilia-mialgia grave (EMS), ma allo stato delle cose si ritiene che il problema fosse dovuto non tanto al supplemento, quanto ad una sua contaminazione.

2) SAMe (S-adenosil-L-metionina). Questo derivato degli aminoacidi può aumentare i livelli di serotonina e dopamina: piccoli studi suggeriscono che possa migliorare il tono dell’umore e la qualità del sonno.

3) Magnesio. Bassi livelli di magnesio sembrano essere correlati alla fibromialgia anche se gli studi scientifici finora condotti non hanno confermato con certezza che l’integrazione di magnesio favorisca il controllo dei sintomi. Tuttavia non sono pochi i pazienti che raccontano di trarne giovamento.

4) Melatonina. Questo ormone è noto per migliorare la qualità e quantità del sonno e spesso si utilizza la sua integrazione in questa ottica. Anche in persone affette da fibromialgia sembra essere efficace in tal senso ed in più  si dimostra utile per contrastarne i dolori associati.

5) Erba di San Giovanni. Questo rimedio naturale, spesso assunto sotto forma di integratori alimentari  aiuta a contrastare la depressione lieve. Per tale motivo la si consiglia anche a chi soffre di fibromialgia, in quanto trattasi di uno dei sintomi più comuni ed invalidanti. Non ci sono comunque prove scientifiche riguardo alla sua efficacia in tal senso o riguardo ad altri sintomi della fibromialgia. Piuttosto, va sottolineato, l’Erba di San Giovanni va assunta con molta attenzione perché interagisce negativamente con numerosi farmaci e sostanze curative.

 

Consigli

La fibromialgia non colpisce tutti allo stesso modo e ciò che è efficace per un individuo non è detto che lo sia anche per altri. In generale nel caso si vogliano provare degli integratori alimentari è opportuno parlarne prima con il proprio medico curante o specialista. Ogni integratore infatti ha una sua ragion d’essere ed una azione terapeutica possibile specifica, ma soprattutto può interagire pericolosamente con altri farmaci che si assumono per la fibromialgia o altre situazioni. L’Erba di San Giovanni ne è l’esempio più evidente in quanto inibisce anche l’efficacia della pillola anticoncezionale! Altresì occorre affidarsi alle dosi consigliate e non eccedere oltre che diffidare di prodotti contenenti sostanze non comuni o che vengono promossi come cura per la fibromialgia, perché non ne esistono di approvati ufficialmente con tale indicazione. Nonostante l’evidenza clinica spesso, non esistendo studi scientifici a riguardo, il rischio maggiore ad assumere integratori e rimedi naturali è quello relativo alla sicurezza.
