L’Helicobacter pylori è un batterio che vive nel muco gastrico all’interno dello stomaco umano; il modo più comune in cui si trasmette è da persona a persona tramite via oro-orale (contatti diretti, goccioline di saliva) o per via oro-fecale.
Il contagio può avvenire tramite l’ingestione di acqua contaminata, verdura o frutta contaminata da acqua inquinata o manipolata da persone che avevano le mani non adeguatamente pulite e disinfettate.



Solitamente è una malattia che nasce e si sviluppa dove le condizioni igieniche sono scarse o del tutto assenti come ad esempio nei paesi in via di sviluppo (infatti ricordiamo che in questi paesi sono presenti delle malattie che si propagano come una pandemia a causa della sporcizia, come la malattia di chagas e la febbre dengue) ma possono presentarsi anche nei paesi evoluti a causa appunto di scarsa igiene.
Un po’ quindi come la salmonellosi che si contrae da animali portatori della malattia, come i polli o dalle uova conservate in modi errati e che è sinonimo di scarsa igene, l’helicobacter pylori trova terreno fertile nei luoghi ricchi di germi e sporcizia e, una volta contratto, prolifica nello stomaco, poichè il muco gastrico è il suo habitat naturale.
Può essere asintomatico, ma in alcuni casi si può palesare con vomito, nausea, dolori gastrici, eruttazione frequente, reflusso gastroesofageo che risulta più intenso subito dopo i pasti.
