Dedicato alle giovani mamme: un consiglio per far crescere in maniera sana i propri neonati è quello di far mangiare loro del pesce, ponendo fine ad un dubbio che alberga da tempo nel cuore degli esperti. Ma, naturalmente, bisogna fare attenzione e approfondire l’argomento.

Quali sono gli effetti benefici del pesce nel periodo della gestazione? Ce ne sono? Si tratta di una diatriba che dura da molto tempo. Alcuni sottolineano gli effetti positivi del pesce dovuti alla presenza di iodio e acidi grassi omega-3, sempre stando alla ricerca, sul banco degli imputati per la presenza di mercurio, non c’era solo il pesce (bianco o azzurro), ma anche alimenti come la birra, il vino, l’alcol e persino le tisane. Tutti elementi da estromettere dalla dieta da seguire durante la gravidanza.

Queste ultime sono classificate dai ricercatori come scoperta impreviste, probabilmente perché erano anche fonte di tossine. Le donne che mostravano livelli più alti di mercurio parevano essere quelle di ceto sociale medio-alto, che avevano frequentato l’Università, che conducevano lavori di un certo rilievo in posizioni manageriali ed erano in attesa di un primo figlio.
Le statistiche dimostravano anche che era inferiore all’1% il numero di persone aventi livelli di mercurio superiore al massimo raccomandato dal National Research Council degli Stati Uniti.
Anche se la ricerca è stata portata avanti in Inghilterra, i valori massimi sono stati identificati negli Stati Uniti perché nel Regno Unito non esiste, allo stato attuale, un livello di sicurezza in merito all’assunzione di mercurio.
Dalla ricerca si evince che il consiglio che di solito viene dato alle donne in gravidanza, di evitare l’assunzione di pesce o frutti di mare al fine di diminuire l’ingestione di mercurio, è inutile.
I ricercatori sono rimasti piacevolmente sorpresi di scoprire che il pesce agevola solo una piccola quantità (il 7%) dei livelli di mercurio nel sangue.
Hanno già scoperto che mangiare pesce nel corso della gravidanza presenta molti benefici per la salute sia per la madre che per il bambino e si augurano che molte più donne prenderanno in considerazione il mangiare maggiori quantitativi di pesce durante la gravidanza.
Importante è che in gravidanza le donne hanno bisogno di una dieta equilibrata mista: dovrebbero contemplare nella dieta i pesci insieme ad altri componenti benefici come frutta e verdura.
