Secondo una recente ricerca pubblicata sulla versione online di JAMA Internal Medicine, è possibile combattere il cancro alla prostata con un sano condimento a tavola. I ricercatori dell’University of California a San Francisco hanno scoperto che il consumo quotidiano di un cucchiaio di olio vegetale abbassa in maniera importante il rischio di cancro alla prostata potenzialmente letale e la possibilità di morire per qualsiasi causa.


Nello studio sono stati coinvolti 4.577 pazienti affetti, al basale, da cancro della prostata non metastatico, i quali sono stati seguiti per ben 8 anni. Durante questo periodo di tempo il 21% dei pazienti è deceduto a causa della malattia, il 31% è deceduto a causa di malattie cardiache e circa un altro 21% è deceduto per altri tipi di cancro.

Come spiegato dai medici che hanno condotto lo studio, i risultati supportano i benefici di una consulenza per uomini con il cancro alla prostata al fine di seguire una dieta sana per il cuore, in cui le calorie da carboidrati vengono sostituite con grassi insaturi da oli e noci per ridurre il rischio di mortalità per qualsiasi causa. Gli esperti sostengono che il potenziale e specifico beneficio del consumo di grassi vegetali in caso di cancro alla prostata merita nuove ricerche.

I risultati dello studio hanno rivelato che gli uomini che avevano sostituito il 10% del loro consumo di carboidrati quotidiano totale con i grassi vegetali sani avevano un rischio più basso del 29% di sviluppare il cancro alla prostata mortale e un rischio ridotto del 26% di morte per qualsiasi causa. È stato inoltre scoperto che mangiare 1 grammo di noci al giorno ha ridotto del 18% il rischio di cancro alla prostata letale e dell’11% il rischio di morte.
