Dai dati emersi dallo studio, che ha coinvolto quasi 4.000 persone, il 60% delle persone non si lava le mani nella maniera giusta: il 10,3% non le lava proprio, il 22% se le lava ma senza sapone e solamente il 5,3% le lava per più di 15 secondi.
Tra i maschi è addirittura il 15% la percentuale che non si lava proprio le mani, mentre tra le femmine la percentuale scende al 7,1%. Chiaramente in seguito ad un contatto con agenti patogeni, il non lavarsi le mani, lavarle male o troppo poco può esporre ad un grande rischio d’infezione. Gli esperti sostengono quanto sia importante tenere le mani sotto al getto dell’acqua per almeno 20 secondi, inoltre sottolineano l’importanza di usare il sapone per lavare le mani.
