Visto che abbiamo parlato del dolore alle dita delle mani e della sindrome di De Quervain, ora è necessario parlare della sindrome del tunnel carpale in quanto spesso sono patologie collegate.
La sindrome del tunnel carpale è una patologia che interessa il nervo mediano durante il suo passaggio nel canale carpale, nel momento in cui si infiamma o si comprime, irritandosi.


Questa neuropatia è dovuta molto spesso all’infiammazione cronica della borsa tendinea dei flessori, che schiaccia il nervo mediano e si può presentare durante la gravidanza, in quelle persone che sono affette da ipertiroidismo e negli individui affetti da connettiviti (come ad esempio l’artrite reumatoide). Sono più frequenti nei soggetti che utilizzano le mani per lavori di precisione e tipicamente ripetitivi.

I soggetti che sono più colpiti da questa patologia sono le donne sopra i quarant’anni e i sintomi tipici sono il dolore intenso delle prime tre dita e metà del quarto dito (pollice, indice, medio) della mano; questo disturbo si presenta principalmente di notte e, se non curata o trascurata, può portare ad una progressiva e irreversibile perdita della sensibilità alle prime 3 dita della mano.

Il primo sintomo che compare quasi sempre è il formicolio e torpore alle prime tre dita della mano, che se non curato, diventa continuo e soprattutto notturno, fino poi a subentrare la fase cosiddetta paralitica che è caratterizzata da forti disturbi della sensibilità tattile e da una grave diminuzione della forza prensile ed il dolore arriva ad irradiarsi fino alla spalla..
