Continuano ad aumentare le persone che soffrono di allergie e i medici lanciano l’allarme: si tratta di un vero e proprio tsunami mondiale e qualcosa dovrà cambiare affinché questo disturbo, che ormai sta dilagando tra grandi e piccini, possa essere in qualche modo arginato.
Ma per il momento i dati parlano chiaro e disegnano uno scenario piuttosto allarmante con allergie al polline e allergie alimentari in netta ascesa. Spiega Alessandro Fiocchi, responsabile di Allergologia dell’Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù, che presiederà a Roma i lavori del Congresso annuale della WAO, l’Organizzazione Mondiale delle Allergie:
La rinite colpisce oltre il 30% dei ragazzi anche in Italia e complessivamente tutte le allergie sono raddoppiate dal 1980 al 2000. In Europa si stima che tra 11 e 26 milioni di persone soffrano di allergie alimentari, una fonte di preoccupazione soprattutto tra i più piccoli: almeno 1 bambino su 20, infatti, è allergico a uno o più alimenti. In Italia, la prevalenza della dermatite atopica, della rinite allergica e dell’asma tra i bambini di 6 – 12 anni è rispettivamente del 7%, 14,5% e 9%. Ciò significa 490.000 bambini tra 0 e 14 anni con eczema, un milione con rinite e 630.000 con asma
Insomma i dati parlano chiaro: le allergie colpiscono anche i bambini e non sono un problema solo degli adulti. Ecco perché i medici sono convinti che qualcosa debba cambiare per rendere questo problema meno diffuso tra la popolazione non solo italiana ma del mondo.
