Lo sostiene un recente studio pubblicato su Expert Review of Neurotherapeutic e condotto dai ricercatori del Centro di Ricerca Nutrizione Umana on Aging alla Tufts University in collaborazione con l’Università del Maryland Baltimore County.
Una dieta ricca di fragole e mirtilli svolgerebbe una vera e propria funzione di carattere preventivo: tutto merito di particolari sostanze attive, i fitonutrienti, contenute nei frutti, responsabili della cosiddetta “autofagia”. In pratica è un auto processo di pulizia naturale dalle tossine che possono accumularsi nel cervello eliminando alla base il rischio che le tossine possano causare il declino cognitivo alterando la salute del cervello.

Lo studio è stato condotto su modelli animali, ma i dati hanno dimostrato che due soli mesi di dieta ricca di mirtilli e fragole, hanno avuto effetti protettivi nei confronti del cervello grazie alla rimozione delle tossine.

 

Gli ottimi risultati della ricerca hanno rappresentato il trampolino di lancio per uno studio successivo condotto sui pazienti: si tratta in questo caso di volontari uomini di età compresa tra i 60 e i 75 anni per poter valutare concretamente gli effetti delle bacche sull’uomo.

 

I ricercatori hanno osservato soprattutto i cambiamenti neurochimici nel cervello e si sono concentrati proprio sul processo di autofagia visto che la maggior parte di malattie del cervello come l’Alzheimer e il Parkinson presentano anche una maggiore quantità di proteine tossiche.

Che i frutti di bosco siano ricchi di qualità poi è già noto: di recente è stato dimostrato che i frutti di bosco svolgono un’azione reale contro l’infiammazione dell’organismo che di per sé rappresenta il campanello d’allarme di molti disturbi, non solo fisici, ma anche mentali e che nelle donne riducono il rischio di infarto.  

Adesso una prima reale conferma che frutti di bosco e fragole possano concretamente svolgere anche un ruolo protettivo contro il declino cognitivo.
