La liquirizia in gravidanza si può consumare? Secondo quanto affermato da uno studio guidato dall’Università di Helsinki e pubblicato su American Journal of Epidemiology, sarebbe meglio evitare la liquirizia nei nove mesi di gestazione.
La liquirizia e il suo dolcificante naturale, ovvero la glicirrizina, potrebbero infatti avere degli effetti negativi sullo sviluppo del feto, condizionandone in primo luogo la memoria. Ma non solo, la liquirizia in gravidanza sarebbe causa anche di performance cognitive peggiori da parte dei bambini che potrebbero penalizzare di sette punti in termini di quoziente intellettivo.
E dunque, nel dubbio, gli esperti consigliano di non mangiare liquirizia quando si è incinta e, se proprio non è possibile, è assolutamente necessario limitarne le quantità. Lo studio sugli effetti della liquirizia è stato condotto su 378 ragazzi di età media di 13 anni. Le loro mamme potevano avere consumato grandi quantità di liquirizia in gravidanza (oltre 500 grammi di glicirrizzina a settimana) oppure poca (meno di 249 grammi) o addirittura niente.
Analizzando i dati emersi, si è arrivati ad affermare che i ragazzi nati da mamme che avevano consumato grandi quantità di liquirizia in gravidanza eseguivano meno bene test cognitivi e di ragionamento effettuati da uno psicologo. Decisamente meritevoli, invece, i ragazzi le cui madri avevano limitato il consumo di liquirizia. I dati sono stati sufficienti per considerare la liquirizia nociva in gravidanza. Meglio dunque evitarla per il bene del futuro bebè!
