Questi ultimi, stando a quanto dichiarato alla rivista scientifica mBio, pubblicazione ufficiale dell’American Society for Microbiology, avrebbero individuato una particolare forma di virus, solitamente presente sulla superficie dell’epidermide, assolutamente innocuo per l’uomo ma estremamente dannoso per i batteri colpevoli proprio della formazione degli inestetismi tipici dell’acne.
In particolar modo, stando a quanto dichiarato dai ricercatori responsabili del programma di ricerca oggi alla nostra attenzione, il virus recentemente individuato sarebbe un batteriofago, altrimenti e più comunemente detto fago, capace di infettare e distruggere i più differenti batteri quali, a titolo puramente esemplificativo, il Propionibacterium acnes che, stando a quanto recentemente appurato, sarebbe uno dei batteri che, annidandosi e proliferando nei pori della pelle ostruiti dal sebo, causerebbe la su indicata acne.
Laura Marinella, una delle principali autrici dello studio pubblicato su mBio, avrebbe a tal proposito dichiarato: “I fagi sono programmati per colpire e uccidere batteri specifici. Questa caratteristica suggerisce che rappresentano un forte potenziale per un uso terapeutico mirato Gli antibiotici come la tetraciclina sono utilizzati così tanto che molti ceppi batterici che causano l’acne hanno sviluppato una resistenza.
