Sindrome di Sturge-Weber

Dopo aver parlato della sindrome di West, della sindrome di Caplan, della sindrome di Edwards, della sindrome di Williams – Beuner, della sindrome di Asperger e della sindrome di Rett, oggi vogliamo parlare di un’altra malattia molto rara, la sindrome di Sturge-Weber.


La sindrome di Sturge-Weber è una malattia genetica molto rara che è presente alla nascita che si manifesta con un’enorme voglia sul viso e molti problemi a livello neurologico.
Le cause della malattia sono ancora oggi sconosciute, ma i sintomi che si manifestano, oltre alla macchia su metà del viso, sono attacchi epilettici, paralisi da un lato e una forte difficoltà di apprendimento.

La maggioranza dei casi che presentano questa sindrome non portano con loro conseguenze che possano mettere in pericolo la vita, ma la qualità della vita stessa del paziente è direttamente proporzionale all’intensità dei sintomi.
Poichè si manifesta già dalla nascita il glaucoma è necessario che i pazienti vengano visitati da un oculista almeno una volta all’anno per curare il glaucoma, e di farsi visitare da un neurologo per curare le crisi e gli altri sintomi neurologici.

Se vi sono un’anomala crescita di vasi sanguigni nel cranio, un continuo sviluppo delle macchie rosse ed un ritardo nello sviluppo, associati a problemi di tipo emotivo o comportamentale, paralisi, convulsioni e cecità dovuta all’espansione del glaucoma, è necessario recarsi immediatamente da uno specialista.
