L’interruzione del circolo sanguigno può interessare sia le arterie che le vene, in questo caso si parla di infarto intestinale venoso. La mortalità per l’infarto intestinale è abbastanza alta, soprattutto nei casi di infarto intestinale che colpisce persone anziane.
