Ecco un nuovo rimedio contro l’acne, proveniente dalla natura: le alghe di mare. Esse, infatti, sono portatrici di acidi grassi omega 3 e omega 6. Questi acidi grassi sono in grado di bloccare l’acne, o meglio il micropo che viene associato allo sviluppo di questi ‘puntini fastidiosi’: porta il nome scientifico di Propionibacteriun acnes.
A diramare la notizia è lIstituto di Acquacoltura dell’Università scozzese di Stirling, ateneo in cui un gruppo di ricercatori ha effettuato la scoperta, successivamente pubblicata sulla rivista Marine Drugs. Lo studio dimostra le proprietà antibatteriche dei principi attivi interni alle alghe, svelando che sono simili a quelle di molecole normalmente utilizzate nei prodotti per il trattamento dell’acne, quali l’acido salicilico.
Gli acidi grassi in questione sono contemplati anche nella pelle. Nella pelle svolgono un’azione di natura protettiva contro i batteri potenzialmente ritenuti pericolosi. Andrew Desbois, uno degli autori dello studio, ha spiegato:
Molti acidi grassi inibiscono o uccidono batteri. Ora si sta svelando che alcuni di questi prevengono la crescita del Propionibacterium acnes.
Nello specifico, i ricercatori hanno rilevato che le alghe marine contengono acido eicosapentaenoico (Epa) e acido diomo-gamma-linolenico (Dgla). Il primo può essere introdotto con l’alimentazione arricchendola di pesci come il salmone, che a sua volta si nutre proprio di alghe ricche di omega 3. Il secondo, invece, è abbondante nelle alghe brune, quali l’alga Kombu, che sono commestibili anche per l’uomo. Tuttavia, stando all’opinione dei ricercatori i benefici delle alghe contro l’acne potrebbero essere sfruttati anche in ambiti diversi dall’alimentazione. Spiega, ancora, Desbois:
Stiamo pensando di introdurli in un unguento che possa essere applicato sulla pelle per aiutare le persone che soffrono di acne. Applicarne di più migliorerebbe le nostre difese preesistenti.
